Total Quality in Vigilance (27 - 29 June 2013)
INTRODUCTION:Till recently, the most common refrain of any organization was that the vigilance set-up in the organization is more of an impediment and hindrance rather than an aid to managerial effectiveness. However today, the perception of the organizations is undergoing a paradigm shift and vigilance is being viewed as part of the overall risk management strategy of an organization where structures, systems and processes are built in such a manner so as to prevent adverse effect on productivity, profitability and reputation. It is being increasingly recognized that, vigilance in any government, public or private sector is like any other function of management, such as finance, personnel, materials management, contracts, quality control etc. and is thus an integral part of administration. All functions of the organization work in coordination to improve overall effectiveness and to achieve objectives for sustained success of the organization. It is therefore imperative that executives from vigilance and other functions are exposed to this aspect of Management for Total Quality in their respective areas of work.

This process establishes confidence in the customers regarding the products ; more so when the testing and calibrating laboratories have been accredited by the recognized bodies. Accreditation is a voluntary, third partyreviewed process. As part of accreditation, a laboratory's quality management system is thoroughly evaluated on a regular basis to ensure continued technical competence and compliance with the standard. To achieve this objective laboratory accreditation based on ISO/IEC 17025 : 2005 - General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories, is an accepted norm world over. In India, NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) controls the laboratory accreditation based on ISO / IEC 17025 : 2005.

Quality & Reliability Assurance of Equipment & Systems 12 – 14 August 2013,
INTRODUCTION:Reliability is concerned with the performance of a product over its entire life time, quality control is concerned with the performance of a product at one point in time, usually during the manufacturing process. As stated in the definition, reliability assures that components, equipment and systems function without failure for desired periods during their whole design life, from conception (birth) to junking (death). Quality control is a single, albeit vital, link in the total reliability process. Quality control assures conformance to specifications. This reduces manufacturing variance, which can degrade reliability. Quality control also checks that the incoming parts and components meet specifications, that products are inspected and tested correctly, and that the shipped products have a quality level equal to or greater than that specified. The specified quality level should be one that is acceptable to the users, the consumer and the public. No product can perform reliably without the inputs of quality control because quality parts and components are needed to go into the product so that its reliability is assured. The programme addresses practical pathways towards manufacturing cost reduction through product quality and reliability improvement. It explores ways to reduce or eliminate the impact of life limiting failure mechanism in design and manufacturing processes

Information Security Management System ISO 27001 : 2005 - Lead Auditor Training 02 – 06 Sept. 2013
INTRODUCTION:Empowerment of public at large due to current exponential technology advancement in the Information Technology field has simultaneously thrown challenges to the organizations to safeguard its vital information to protect its business interests and also avoid exploitation by the vested interests. Most organizations have a number of information security controls in operation which specifically address certain aspects of IT or data structure leaving non-IT information assets (such as paperwork and proprietary knowledge) less protected on the whole. Therefore without a systematic management of information, the controls tend to be disorganized and disjointed. ISO/IEC 27001:2005 – Information technology – Security techniques – Information security management systems – Requirements , formally specifies a management system that is intended to bring information security under explicit management control. Being a formal specification means that it mandates specific requirements. Organizations that claim to have adopted ISO / IEC 27001 can therefore be formally audited and certified compliant with the standard.
