International Training Workshop on Maintenance of Infrastructure

Engineering Staff College of India conducted a three day International Training Workshop on “Maintenance of Infrastructure” from 09–11 October, 2011.
The workshop was sponsored by International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for South-South Cooperation under the Auspices of UNESCO (ISTIC).
Participants from Myanmar, Malaysia, Tanzania, Nigeria, Pakistan, Mauritius, Oman, Maldives, Kenya, Jordan, Ghana and Uganda attended the Program.
Inaugural Address was delivered by the Chief Guest, Shri Madan Lal – Past President of Institution of Engineers (India),
Cdr Arvind Poothia IN (Retd), Director General ESCI addressed the participants about the program.
Shri S Ranga Rao Head, Civil & Transportation Engineering Division, welcomed the chairman & the participants and Vote of Thanks was proposed by Shri K Muralidhar Sr. Faculty CTE Division.

The training workshop comprehensively addressed the various issues of good maintenance practices. The need for developing and implementing a maintenance plan which is the major input for maintaining the value of an asset effectively were discussed.
The advantages of a maintenance plan to maintain an infrastructure in organized and systematic rather than ad-hoc way, to monitor various infrastructure services and to assist their efficient use and to avoid extensive damage and safety or fire hazards that could arise due to neglected maintenance were also discussed.
The roles of Building Maintenance Personnel who play an important role in various maintenance activities were also addressed.
Maintenance of various components of Infrastructure like Land Management, Power generation and distribution, institutional and regulatory issues, fire, safety, security and other amenities were extensively discussed.
Different types of maintenance like Corrective maintenance, Planned maintenance, Emergency corrective maintenance and Operational maintenance of Roads and Bridges were also addressed as per standards.
The Importance of Financial planning, Budgetary Control, Monitoring and Evaluation related to Infrastructure was addressed during the course of training program.
Issue like landscaping, horticulture and green building concepts which play a vital role in climate control was also discussed.
