DATES :
18- 20 Feb 2008

VENUE:
ESCI, Campus, Gachi Bowli, Hyderabad.

INTRODUCTION

Technical human resources are vital to add value to products and services in the present knowledge economy. Engineering education is the most important means of creating such techno human resources. Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization in the country have affected engineering education too. Today there are 1400 engineering colleges in India turning  out more than 4,50,000 graduates every year. In certain states several thousands of seats remain vacant. The admission standards are therefore sometimes relaxed.  Yet approvals are issued for newer colleges and for new courses every year. The regime of World Trade Organization and the Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) coming into effect from 01 Jan 05 only added more emphasis on the quality of engineers graduating every year. Global competitiveness, technological progress and improvement in quality of living depends to a great extent on the engineers. They can apply their knowledge creatively and innovatively to solve real life problems. These abilities are nurtured in engineering institutes. Thus it is imperative that these be equipped  and  managed well,  focusing on quality education that can be used  and applied in the industry. Thus products and services can be made available to  the common man at affordable prices for sustainable growth in society. The society and the nation expect precisely this from our engineers. Thus the primary function of all educationists is to provide quality education to engineers so that they contribute to sustainable economic development of the country.
