Dates : 26 – 29 February, 2008

Venue : Engineering Staff College of India, Old Bombay Road, Gachi Bowli,Hyderabad

INTRODUCTION

In a Project, Formulation stage is followed by Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation.

Monitoring involves gathering data, obtaining information during implementation of a Project and using that information to enable the project / programme administration to assess the progress of implementation of objectives and take timely due decisions and corrective actions to ensure that progress and discipline are maintained according to pre-determined estimated schedule and completion is achieved within given resources, cost and time limits.

Evaluation assesses the overall project effects and their impact.

Monitoring & Evaluation functions are inter-related, but distinct.

According to the National Water Policy 2002, “ A close monitoring of projects to identify bottle-necks and to adopt timely measures to  obviate time and cost overrun should form part of project planning and execution.  There should  be a system to monitor and evaluate the performance and socio-economic impact of the project”.
